Where does the personalization lettering go? (on the side with the post-it's spot? OR on the other side that would face others?) Is the lettering printed on or engraved?

Sorry for the confusion! The engraving is done on a 3" by 1" gold plate that is mounted on the wall of the pen and pencil cup, in front (the side facing you in the picture of this item.) The gold plate is laser engraved to produce black text.
