How does the wheel ignition work? Do you still have to use your thumb to light it?

Yes, you roll the flint wheel of the Zippo. That creates a spark that lights the wick. Hope that helps!

Verified Buyerhis was a gift for a Zippo fan friend who had given me a custom Zippo when i made his stained glass logo years ago. His brother had miniatureized the logo and had it reproduced as small, thin copper medallion that he epoxied to the lighter. It was only fair that i got him a 1935 repro Zip to fasten his art to. It was perfect. After his effusive thanks he later sent me a message that said, "SteamPunk Industrial", nice" Zippo and United States standard.
Pros
- Light every time, windproof, rugged and very cool in the company of all those gas bag plastic lighters that everyone steals when they can. The Zip they marvel at and hand back in reverent awe.

- have to replace fuel......that's it.
